Top NCAA QB Michael Eubank set to lead Germany’s Cologne Crocodiles

Germany’s Cologne Crocodiles, who are making their debut in the German Football League’s highest division, have signed quarterback Michael Eubank who most recently had a try out with the Carolina Panthers.

The 6’6″, 240 lb native of Corona, California, dubbed a Cam Newton lookalike by many, in fact did impress in his Panthers tryout in 2016 but found himself behind a string of highly experienced quarterbacks and failed to catch on this time.

Eubank, was a standout with the Samford University Bulldogs after transferring from Arizona State. He was a dynamic playmaker at quarterback for Samford and had the production to prove it. In just two years at Samford, he passed for 3,568 yards, with 22 passing touchdowns and 7 rushing touchdowns.

Coming out of Centennial High School he earned plenty of accolades. Following his outstanding senior season, Eubank was named a PrepStar All-American, and he was listed as a four-star prospect by both Rivals.com and Scout.com. Rivals.com named him the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback prospect in the nation and the No. 22 prospect from the state of California. GoldenStatePreps.com named Eubank its Southern California Offensive Player of the Year in 2010.

Even with his size, Eubank definitely also gives the impression that he is a mobile quarterback. But that is not how he would describe himself. He spoke with the Carolina Panthers Edgar Salmingo Jr.:

“I’m a versatile quarterback. I love to stand in the pocket. I love to deliver the ball. My job is to get the ball to the guys who are much more faster than I am and much more elusive than I am. [But] if things are breaking down or if the play calls [for] me to use my legs I can use them to my benefit.”

Eubank brings more to the table than size and athleticism. Being a quarterback, he believes that he brings leadership qualities and other intangibles are necessary to succeed.

“I’m a hard working guy. I’ve had to work for every single thing I’ve gotten to get to this opportunity. I’m not stopping my hard work ethic now. [I’m a] devoted leader, somebody that is devoted to his brothers, devoted to this teammates, somebody that is going to go out each and every single play give it my all,”

Cologne head coach Patrick Köpper:

“Michael is a dual threat. He can throw pinpoint passes and has the ability to carry the ball himself. He has been playing in the Zone Read offense for years and is hard to tackle because of his physicality. Michael will give a boost to all of our offensive players. He will also take the pressure off of our young German QB talents, Benjamin Mentges and Jan Weinreich, and will continue to train them in extra units. We are very glad to be able to win such a good game maker for Cologne.”
