R.I.P. Kirk Mastromatteo 1970-2020

We are saddened to report the passing of Kirk Mastromatteo, head coach of Poland’s Warsaw Eagles, and beloved friend of football everywhere, who died suddenly, January 7.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family, to the Warsaw Eagles football team and the entire American international football community.

The 49-year-old Mastromatteo apparently passed away peacefully in his sleep.

He was in his eighth year of coaching internationally but had 26 years of coaching behind him. He most recently spent three years coaching the Warsaw Eagles in Poland winning the 2018 PLFA TopLiga title in his first season with the team.  In 2014, he guided Vukovi Belgrade to the Serbian and CEFL titles, going undefeated along the way. He also coached Switzerland’sGeneva Seahawks to a second division title game in 2015. He got his start in Europe with the Cagiliari Crusaders in Italy.

He began his career at the University of Akron as a student assistant coach in 1989. Since then, he has served on seven coaching staffs in the United States including Norfolk State and Bethune Cookman, both NCAA Division 1 schools.

He will be missed.
