The Ravensburg Razorbacks (4-3) responded to their earlier defeat to the Pforzheim Wilddogs (6-2) in emphatic fashion Saturday night, earning a 28-10 German Football League victory before 1,203 fans at the Razordome to move back into the race for the top spots in the GFL South.
Behind a balanced passing attack from Broghean McGovern and a relentless defensive effort, the Razorbacks controlled the game from start to finish, handing the Wilddogs only their second loss of the season.
Fast start sets the tone
Alex Mazak’s opening kickoff return to midfield immediately gave the Ravensburg offense momentum. Although the opening drive stalled inside the two-yard line, the defense quickly forced a punt after Ben Rashid recorded the first of his four sacks on Pforzheim quarterback Drequan Harris.
McGovern wasted little time capitalizing, connecting with Aniel Buße on a 57-yard touchdown pass. Tim Müller’s extra point gave the Razorbacks a 7-0 lead.
The defense continued to dominate as Rashid and Samuel Mindham, who added two sacks of his own, consistently pressured Harris. McGovern even converted a fake punt to keep another drive alive, showing the aggressive approach of the home team.
Big plays fuel the offense
The Wilddogs answered when Harris found Raymond Fragosa for a touchdown to tie the game.
The response from Ravensburg came quickly. McGovern completed consecutive passes to Buße and Tim Müller, with Müller finishing the drive with a touchdown reception to restore a 14-7 lead before halftime.
McGovern finished 17-of-29 passing for 285 yards and three touchdowns despite one interception. Buße led the receiving corps with four catches for 97 yards and a score, while Müller added three receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Harris Jr. chipped in five catches for 47 yards before sealing the win with the game’s final touchdown.
Defense closes the door
The Razorbacks defense took over after halftime.
Buße added a pair of field goals to stretch the lead to 20-7 before Henri Moudilou recovered a fumble forced on Harris late in the fourth quarter.
That turnover set up the decisive drive. McGovern converted a fourth down with a strike to Müller before finding Anthony Harris Jr. for a touchdown. Harris then caught the two-point conversion to extend the advantage to 28-7.
Pforzheim managed a late field goal for the 28-10 final.
Despite the loss, Harris accounted for most of the Wilddogs’ offense, completing 15 of 35 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown while adding a team-high 70 rushing yards on 18 carries. Leonell Fritzen led the receivers with six catches for 64 yards, while Luca Faschian added two receptions for 50.
Although Pforzheim retained the overall tiebreaker based on total points over the two meetings, the Ravensburg Razorbacks left no doubt on Saturday night, delivering one of their most complete performances of the season.
