The home team Ravensburg Razorbacks (3-2) got rushing touchdowns from Lennies McFerren, a 71-yard blocked-field-goal return touchdown from Jonah Choate and a dominant defensive effort as they defeated the Saarland Hurricanes (1-4) 48-6 in a German Football League showdown at TeleData Stadium in Ravensburg.
Ground game sets the tone
After back-to-back losses, Ravensburg came into the matchup looking for a response and found it immediately. Known primarily for their passing attack, the Razorbacks opened the game by leaning heavily on the running game.
Lennies McFerren capped the opening drive with a touchdown run, and he added a second score on the next possession as Ravensburg raced out to a 14-0 lead.
The Razorbacks ultimately scored four of their six touchdowns on the ground, showing a more balanced offensive approach than they had displayed in recent weeks.
Defense and special teams take over
The turning point came when Saarland appeared ready to get on the scoreboard. Instead, a Hurricanes field goal attempt was blocked, and Jonah Choate scooped up the loose ball and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown.
That score stretched the lead to 21-0 and highlighted a dominant afternoon by the Ravensburg defense and special teams units.
The Hurricanes also suffered a setback when new quarterback Jaylen Tregle was forced to leave the game with an injury. Joshua Youngblood stepped in and provided several explosive plays, but the visitors struggled to sustain drives against an aggressive Razorbacks defense.
Hélio Barros Lima recorded a key sack and later recovered a fumble as Ravensburg consistently disrupted the Hurricanes offense. The Razorbacks finished with four quarterback sacks and repeatedly won the battle at the line of scrimmage.
Razorbacks stay in control
Quarterback Broghean McGovern added to the lead before halftime with a touchdown pass to Anthony Harris Jr. and later scored on a rushing touchdown of his own as Ravensburg built a commanding 34-0 halftime advantage.
The dominance continued after the break when Samuel Mindham recovered a fumble in the end zone for another Razorbacks touchdown, extending the lead to 41-0.
Youngblood finally put Saarland on the board with a fourth-quarter touchdown run, but Ravensburg had the final word. Tye Germain broke free for a 41-yard touchdown run to complete the scoring.
The victory moves the Ravensburg Razorbacks to 3-2 and gives them renewed momentum heading into a difficult stretch of games, while the Saarland Hurricanes fall to 1-4 after another challenging afternoon on the road.
