Rhein Fire secure top seed with win over Frankfurt Galaxy

Sunday saw the Rhein Fire top off their undefeated European League of Football season with a 48-38 win at home over the Frankfurt Galaxy, who finished the season with a 10-2 record.

Frankfurt Galaxy managed to open up scoring after a pass from Jakeb Sullivan to Normen Schumm set them up on the goal line where fullback Leon Helm punched in the score. Soon after, the Fire responded with a deep Harlan Kowfie touchdown, to give Jadrian Clark his 51st passing score of the season. A failed extra-point conversion kept Frankfurt in the lead by one point.

Their lead didn’t last long, however, as a Flamur Simon interception set the Fire up in the redzone. Two plays later, Glen Toonga was in the endzone to put the Fire up 13-7. The following drive saw the Galaxy equalize after a Sullivan-led drive led to a goal line score from the quarterback.

After forcing a punt out of the red-hot Fire offense, Frankfurt managed to double-up with a Sullivan-Regler touchdown to put them ahead.

To end the half Rhein scored three unanswered touchdowns, as offensive scores from Toonga and Kwofie as well as an intercepted screen pass returned for a touchdown by Alejandro Fernandez put the Fire up 34-21.

The Galaxy came out of the break hot, as a spectacular Reece Horn score closed the lead to one score. A Glen Toonga end-around, however, distanced the Fire further, drowning out any hopes the Galaxy had of taking the top seed.

The final quarter saw both teams score as Kwofie and Schumm found the endzone respectively, before the Fire would be able to end the game in victory formation having completed a perfect regular season.
