RIP – Pierre Charron

It is with the deepest regret that AFI announces the sudden passing of Canadian football coach Pierre Charron.

The 58 year old Charron had been involved in American football in El Salvador for over 15 years having worked in club football with the Jaguares in that country since the early 2000s, and most recently served with the Salvadorian Association of American Intramural Football – SAAIF, as a member of the ethics and disciplinary committee. He had played football in high school and college in Montreal, Canada and was an avid supporter of the Canadian Football League.

He coached what was then the El Salvador Jaguars, in numerous regional events with Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. He then went on to coach the newly organized teams of the SAAIF organization, including the San Salvador Caimanes and Sonsonate Sharks. He was the assistant head coach for the El Salvador National Selection Team, BIG BLUE as well as the Information Technology Director for the Federation.

The president of SAAIF, Steve Agreda, expressed his condolences:

Pierre passed away at 10:00 am on the Tuesday morning of April 27th, 2021 in the comfort of his home. He is survived by his wife Daniela and numerous American Football “kids” as we liked to refer to them (our players).

Pierre’s kind heart and strong will to help the Salvadoran people through the American Football program will be missed by all the members of SAAIF, and for me personally… his loss leaves a tremendous hole in my life, not only for the person that he was, but for the countless days where we would just sit and talk about our love for the game and helping people through that mutual love.
