Russ Crawford: Top teams dominate opening day at Women’s IFAF Euro Flag Championships in Paris
After a parade of national flags, IFAF President Pierre Trochet and other dignitaries opened the 2025 IFAF Euro Flag tournament on Wednesday night, and the games began on Thursday September 25, 2025.
The games held few surprises, as the top ranked teams took care of business. Team France enjoyed their home field advantage by defeating Sweden 40-13, Norway 60-6, and Hungary 40-6. Top ranked Team Austria also went 3-0 for the day, beating the Netherlands 56-6, Slovenia, and Israel 39-7. Team Great Britain had to work harder for their 3 victories. They won a close one against Ukraine 31-26, Turkiye 29-21, and they finally had a breather when they blew out Finland 38-0. Team Spain overcame Poland 34-0, Norway 58-0, and Sweden 43-6. Germany blanked Ireland 70-0, and Denmark 52-0. Finishing the top 11, Italy beat Denmark 26-6, and then had a closer game but defeated Ireland 39-22.

The biggest surprise of the day was the play of 30th ranked Team Ukraine, who lost to Great Britain by only 5 points. They then defeated Finland 34-14, and Czechia 27-6. They will try to keep their momentum going tomorrow in the first women’s games when they play 1-1 Turkiye.
Other interesting games starting in the afternoon games will feature Germany versus Italy, both of whom won both of their games on day 1, Spain against France, both undefeated so far, and likewise undefeated 3-0 Austria playing 2-0 Switzerland.
