Spain: Murcia Cobras, Coslada Camioneros, Las Rozas Black Demons join Badalona Dracs in semifinals

The Spanish League of American Football quarterfinals produced a historic first as the top four teams in the country advanced to the semifinal stage.

The Murcia Cobras, Coslada Camioneros and Las Rozas Black Demons all took care of business downing their quarterfinal opponents with two of the games high scoring affairs. For Coslada though, this was a momentous win as it marked the first time in its history that the team has advanced to the semifinals.

The Badalona Dracs had already qualified for the semifinals with a 49-0 win a week ago over the Zaragoza Hurricanes.

Murcia Cobras 64 – Osos Rivas 41

The Murcia Cobras, behind the passing of quarterback Adam Salvadori, who threw five touchdown passes and ran for two more, outran the Osos Rivas in the second half to come away with the highest scoring win of the playoffs. Receiver Alex Holmes caught four of those touchdown passes as Murcia outscored the team from Madrid 30-13 in the second half for the win.

Osos quarterback Ryan Deal threw three touchdown passes himself while Kevin Wiggins scored two touchdowns, one on a punt return and the other on a pass reception.

The Cobras, 2018 finalists, will now face the Badalona Dracs in the semifinals.

Coslada Camioneros 21 – Mallorca Voltors 13


The Coslada Camioneros relied on their defense, tops in the league during the regular season, and the legs of running back Oscar Zazo, to defeat the Mallorca Voltors 21-13. Zazo scored all three touchdowns for Coslada in a game which was dominated by both defenses.

The Camioneros took a 14-0 at the half and increased it to 21-0 in the third quarter before Mallorca’s offense came to life. Voltors quarterback Craig Coffman connected with Carlos Vega to reduce the lead to 21-7 and then late in the game Coffman struck again, closing the gap to 21-13. But with little time left, Coslada was able to hold on for the win.

Next up for Coslada will be the Las Rozas Black Demons.

LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons 63 – Valencia Firebats 40

The Black Demons advanced to the Spanish semifinals for the second year in a row after an exciting, fireworks-filled football game against the Valencia Firebats which saw both teams combine for 76 points in the first half alone. Las Rozas had all they could handle in the first 24 minutes of the game against the Firebats as they battled to take a 42-34 lead at the break. Both teams scored a touchdown in the third quarter with the Black Demons holding a 49-40 lead heading into the final period.

That’s when Las Rozas pulled away scoring two unanswered touchdowns.

Game MVP, Black Demons quarterback Trenton Jones, threw six touchdown passes and scored another one on the ground  while running back Marcos de la Mata rushed for one score and scored another on a pass. Wide receiver Jesús Pérez hauled in three touchdown passes while Sergio Condés and Ignacio Ortiz had one each.

For the ​​Firebats, veteran quarterback Fernando Altarriba  threw four touchdown passes to receivers Alejandro Silvestre (2 TDs), Sergio León (1 TD) and Javier Martínez (1 TD) while running back Toni Montón added two on the ground.

The Black Demons now move on the face the Coslada Camioneros in the Spanish semifinals.
