Stockholm Mean Machines sign Long Island University QB Derek Green

The Stockholm Mean Machines have announced the signing of Derek Green as their new quarterback.

Green, the son of former NFL quarterback Trent Green, replaces Mateo Renteria who suffered a serious lower body injury against the Oslo Vikings earlier in May and in his attempts to play through it, the injury worsened. He did not appear in the win against AIK.

The 6’4″, 215 pound, 24 year old native of Leawood, Kansas spent the 2024 season with the Aix Argonautes in the French D1 Elite league which just wrapped up. In nine games he threw for 1,067 yards and nine touchdowns. In 2023, he played for the Stainless Steel (Bologna) Warriors in the Italian top league where in seven games he threw for 1,264 yards and eight touchdowns and rushed for 151 yards and two scores.

He spent his graduate year as quarterback for the Long Island University Sharks (NCAA Div. 1) and in his seven games he threw for 1,248 yards and four touchdowns. He had transferred from Southern Methodist University where he was a back up.
