Sweden: Carlstad Crusaders sign former ELF title winning QB Jackson Erdmann

The Carlstad Crusaders, fresh off their back-to-back championships in the Swedish Superserien, have announced the signing of quarterback Jackson Erdmann for the 2026 season. Erdmann takes over the reins from Slade Jarman, who played a pivotal role in leading the team to consecutive titles in 2024 and 2025. With Jarman moving on, the Crusaders are looking to maintain their winning momentum with Erdmann at the helm.

Erdmann’s championship pedigree
The 6’3,” 215-pound, 28 year old Erdmann led the Vienna Vikings to the European League of Football title in 2022 during their inaugural season, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. Hailing from Minnesota, he grew up in a football family, with his father, Jeff, making a name for himself as a high school coach. Erdmann had a stellar college career at Saint John’s University, where he started all four years and threw for over 11,000 yards. His impressive performance earned him the Gagliardi Trophy in 2018, recognizing him as the top player in NCAA Division III, and he finished with 142 career touchdowns.

Success in Europe
After workouts with the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears, Erdmann found his way to Europe, joining the Vikings. In his debut season, he threw for 2,849 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, quickly becoming a fan favorite. His success was aided by connections with former Crusaders players Niklas Johansson and Matt Daltrey, as well as former coach Danny Mitchell, all of whom contributed to Erdmann’s championship experience.

A return to the field
Although Erdmann initially stepped away from football after the 2022 season, the opportunity to reunite with Johansson reignited his passion for the game. “I’ve missed football,” Erdmann said. “I’m thrilled to play with some familiar faces in a great organization.”

Head coach’s confidence in Erdmann
Head coach Christian Forsman expressed his excitement about Erdmann joining the team, stating, “We believe Jackson is the right fit for us, both in terms of leadership and skill.” Forsman is optimistic that Erdmann will help the Crusaders continue their winning tradition as they aim for a third consecutive title.

Erdmann is expected to join the Crusaders in March, ready to lead the team into the 2026 season.
