Swedish champion Carlstad Crusaders sign Tim Morovick as QB

The reigning Swedish champion Carlstad Crusaders have signed Timothy Morovick as their quarterback for the 2021 season.

Ironically, Morovick was the quarterback for Carlstad’s arch rivals in 2020, the Stockholm Mean Machines, the team the Crusaders defeated for the Swedish title.

Carlstad had originally re-signed their championship-winning quarterback, Danny Farley, but he was offered the position of offensive coordinator and quarterback by the German powerhouse, the Frankfurt Universe, and he opted for it.

Carlstad head coach Billy BD Kennedy is pretty happy the way things turned out:

“I am very excited to add Tim to our team. It is a unique situation in that we have seen him play in our league last season and he did a fantastic job. He can be a threat through the air and on the ground. His particular playing style will mesh well with what we would like to do with our offense. We look forward to Tim leading the offense into the Super Series season along with the Central European Football League tournament coming up.”

The 6’2″, 215 pound, 28 year old Morovick, from Hemet, California, spent the shortened and late Swedish season playing for the Mean Machines, leading them to the championship final against Carlstad. During the team’s regular season, Morovick threw for 771 yards in five games and nine touchdowns while rushing for 225 yards and four touchdowns.

Not many players had a chance to play in 2020 so Morovick was grateful for the opportunity:

“I’m thankful that I got the opportunity to play football during this pandemic in Sweden.”

Prior to that, he had spent a tumultuous couple of years. He had originally signed to play for the Helsinki Wolverines in Finland but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented him from traveling to Finland at the time. After signing with the Aarhus Tigers in Denmark in 2019, he suffered a season-ending injury. He had played in Poland with the Wroclaw Panthers in 2017 and 2018 helping them win their second straight Polish title in 2017 while earning the league’s most valuable player award.  He left the team late in the 2018 season in a contract dispute. He spent the 2016 campaign with the Albershausen Crusaders in Germany. Morovick played for Ottawa University (Kansas, NAIA) where he was picked to play in the Senior Bowl.

Needless to say, Morovick is looking forward to the challenge with Carlstad:

“When you come to an association like Carlstad Crusaders, the expectations are always to win a championship title. We also want to assert ourselves against the other top teams in Europe and we will work hard every day to achieve those goals.”
