Swedish Semifinals: Uppsala 86ers v. Stockholm Mean Machines – QB Head to Head

The defending champion Stockholm Mean Machines will take on the Uppsala 86ers in the Swedish Superserien semifinals this weekend.

The two teams met twice during the COVID-19 delayed and shortened season with Stockholm winning both, the first easily 41-0, and the second 34-14.

Stockholm quarterback Timothy Morovick, 6’2″, 200 pounds, has grown into the role after having missed an entire season with an injury. He shook the rust off early this year after missing the season opener and has performed as advertised, providing leadership and skill. His running ability has been a huge plus for the Mean Machines and his 60.5% completion rate and league-best 9 TD passes attest to his passing skills. He started in four of Stockholm’s six games throwing for a league-high 771 yards (192.75 yds/game) and nine touchdowns, also tops in Sweden. He finished as the third leading rusher in the league as well.

Facing him is rookie quarterback Viktor Ekberg who has only started two of Uppsala’s six games, but given the 86ers offense a sense of stability. Ekberg, the Swedish U19 national team quarterback, who led Sweden to a silver medal in the 2019 European Junior Championships, has proven the strength of his arm in his two starts and his ability to stand in the pocket and make decisions. His 165.5 yards per game average is second only to Morovick’s average. While not possessing the mobility of his opponent, his size, 6’4″, 250 pounds, make him tough to bring down

In their only head-to-head meeting this year, the 34-14 Stockholm win, Morovick threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns while Ekberg threw for 182 and one score. They both tossed an interception in that game which was Ekberg’s first start of the year.
