Team Serbia blanks Czech Republic as IFAF 2020 European Championship qualifying nears end

The Serbian national team defeated Team Czech Republic 16-0 this past weekend at City Stadium in Pozarevac, Serbia in the second game of IFAF 2020 European Championship Group A, Division A action.

With the win, Serbia eliminated the Czechs from contention and will now face Team France to decide the winner of the group and advancement to the final four.

For Serbia, quarterback David Hanomihl-Lukic threw a touchdown pass to Stefan Djuric while Goran Zec scored on a pick six. Zeljko Stegnjaja kicked a field goal and an extra point.

The Czech offense struggled throughout the game and all three quarterbacks, Pavel Mráz, Tomas Fortelny and Kamil Roba saw action but to no avail as the Serbs took early control of the game.

Hanomihl-Lukic connected with Djuric from 22 yards out to give Serbia a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

The second quarter saw much of the same as the Czechs were unable to move the ball. Hanomihl-Lukic marched his team down to the Czech 18 yard line, thanks to a spectacular reception by Filip Nedeljkovic and Stegnjaja kicked a 35 yard field goal to increase the lead to 10-0.

Neither team could move the ball effectively in the second half as defenses ruled the day.

Serbia had chances to add to their lead with Stegnjaja attempting a pair of field goals but he missed on one and the other was blocked.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Team Serbia defensive back Goran Sec picked off Fortelni and returned the ball 30 yards for a touchdown to seal the win.

Serbia will now travel to France on November 9 and play Team France for Division A supremacy.
