The Journey: From Europe to Texas Daniel Docal Filippidoy hopes to catch the eyes of NFL teams

By Justin Kelm

A champion in Germany, now defensive back Daniel Docal Filippidoy has traveled all the way from Europe to Texas. Yes, that’s right, Docal has made his journey to San Antonio.

The saying is “Everything is bigger in Texas.” This saying is accurate. Last season Docal played in the German Football League with the Hildesheim Invaders.

He alongside fellow teammate and friend wide receiver Mario Flores have made their way to participate in The Spring League.

The Spring League usually operates in the Spring, hence the name but due to the current pandemic, everything has changed. Both have been putting in their hard work and are eagerly awaiting one of the six teams to sign them.

There are six teams, they are staying in a bubble type concept downtown with all games at the Alamodome. It will be televised nationally on Fox Sports 1.

In 2017, Docal was a member of one of the strongest teams in Europe, the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns. The Unicorns are regular visitors to the German Bowl, the Super Bowl of the German Football League. In that season, Docal won a championship.

Nothing has stopped him and he continues to contribute on and off the field. For Flores and Docal this is just the beginning as they both look to make a name for themselves in this league. So stay tuned.
