The Tyresö Royal Crowns claimed the 2026 Swedish Superserien championship Saturday, defeating the Stockholm Mean Machines 49-33 in an entertaining title game at Sola Arena as quarterback Trevor Vasey directed an explosive offensive performance to deliver the club’s first national championship since 2001.
The teams combined for 82 points in a game packed with big plays, momentum swings and relentless offense. But while both teams moved the ball with regularity, Tyresö came up with winning plays when it mattered most, combining timely defensive stops with an attack that never seemed to lose its rhythm.
Fast start
If anyone expected a defensive battle, they didn’t have to wait long to find out they were wrong.
Tyresö opened the afternoon with a long, clock-eating drive that ended with Vasey powering across from a yard out to put the Royal Crowns on the board.
The Mean Machines answered in kind. Dawson Herl calmly marched Stockholm down the field before taking matters into his own hands, racing eight yards for the tying score.
The fireworks kept coming. Before the opening quarter expired, Lucas Gunnstam Lissel broke through to put the Royal Crowns back in front, capping another impressive possession as both offenses found little resistance early.

Special teams make a difference
The game’s first momentum swing didn’t come from either offense.
Early in the second quarter, Tyresö came up with a blocked field goal, only for Stockholm to stay within striking distance when Herl connected with William Bargot for a touchdown on fourth down. The Royal Crowns’ special teams weren’t finished, though, getting another hand on the extra-point attempt to preserve the advantage.
Vasey kept the pressure squarely on the Mean Machines, bulldozing into the end zone for the second time before Stockholm failed to cash in on its final possession of the half. That left Tyresö carrying a 21-13 lead into the locker room.
Tyresö withstands every push
The Mean Machines had opportunities after halftime, but every time they threatened to swing the game, the Royal Crowns had an answer waiting.
Stockholm’s defense came up with a huge fourth-down stop deep in its own territory, only to watch Vasey lead another scoring drive moments later, stretching the margin once again.
Anton Blomgren kept the Mean Machines within reach, but the celebration barely had time to die down before Vasey struck again, this time finding Kevin Börzsei behind the defense for a long touchdown that restored Tyresö’s cushion.
Trailing 36-19 entering the fourth quarter, Stockholm refused to disappear. Herl hooked up with Matthew Retzlaff for a touchdown, and an onside-kick recovery suddenly gave the Mean Machines fresh life.
That hope lasted only one series. Facing a pivotal fourth down, the Royal Crowns defense came up with perhaps its biggest stop of the afternoon, slamming the door on the comeback.

Championship finished
Oliwer Stedt gave Tyresö more breathing room with another score, but Stockholm answered again through Blomgren to trim the deficit to 43-33.
The Mean Machines gambled on a second onside kick, but this time the Royal Crowns secured possession. With the opportunity to finish the job, Börzsei did exactly that, reaching the end zone for his second touchdown of the afternoon and sending the Tyresö sideline into celebration.
Behind Vasey’s outstanding performance and a complete team effort, the Tyresö Royal Crowns capped a memorable postseason by lifting the Swedish Superserien trophy after one of their finest offensive performances of the season.
