Unbeaten Obic Seagulls face revamped Elecom Kobe Finies offense

The Obic Seagulls (4-0) put their perfect XLeague Premier record on the line Sunday against the Elecom Kobe Finies (3-1) at MK Taxi Field Expo, with both teams returning to action carrying major changes into the fall schedule.

Holley leads unbeaten Obic

Obic rolled through the spring with four straight victories behind quarterback Pierce Holley, who completed 72 of 104 passes for 869 yards and eight touchdowns.

Tay Cunningham emerged as his biggest weapon, hauling in 25 passes for 477 yards and four touchdowns. The Seagulls have now added more speed to an already deep receiving corps with Shunto Mizoguchi joining Cunningham, Jamal Watanabe and Yuki Sakuma.

Linebacker Yosuke Kanno also returns to bolster an Obic team looking to pick up where it left off.

Bullock takes over in Kobe

The biggest question surrounds the Finies offense.

David Pindell, who had directed the unit since 2022, is no longer on the fall roster after throwing for 234 yards and two touchdowns while adding 213 yards and three scores on the ground during the spring.

That hands the offense to newly added quarterback Xaevier Bullock winner of a German Football League title with the Potsdam Royals in 2025, who immediately faces a difficult assignment against unbeaten Obic.

The change also puts more pressure on the rest of the Kobe offense to help its new quarterback settle in. Tatsuya Miki caught three passes for 85 yards during the spring, while Takato Ito finished with six receptions for 77 yards.

New-look offense gets immediate test

The matchup comes down to two very different situations. The Seagulls enter with their core intact and additional weapons around an offense that already produced consistently during the spring.

The Finies, meanwhile, went 3-1 before making a major quarterback change.

Now Bullock gets his first chance to take control of the Kobe offense — against the only team in this matchup that has yet to lose.
