Veteran QB Clark Hazlett helping grow the game in Australia

In a sport still gaining momentum on the other side of the world, globe trotting quarterback Clark Hazlett has definitely carved out a legacy.

Hazlett added second consecutive title to his resume in Australia last year in guiding the UNSW Raiders to the New South Wales crown. The Raiders dominated the league in 2024 and earned a 70-42 statement win over the UTS Gators in the championship game. The victory solidified Hazlett’s status as a championship quarterback.

“Winning one title was special,” Hazlett said. “But going back-to-back proves that this group of guys, led by head coach Andrew Brundu, has set a new standard for American football in Australia. We trust each other, we grind together, and we play for something bigger than ourselves. What makes this team different is our culture. It is built on accountability, unity, and a real love for the game. Every guy shows up not just to win but to make the man next to him better.”

A global journey with an Aussie destination

The 6’4″, 220-pound 28 year old native of Lynden, Washington  has competed in France, the Czech Republic, and Mexico but says Australia now feels like home. The level of competition is rising as the NFL expands and a game is scheduled to be held in Melbourne in 2025. Along with a growing fan base and a close-knit football community, his time in Australia has become much more than just another stop.

“There is a genuine hunger for the sport here,” he said. “The players are athletic, competitive, and eager to showcase their skills for a chance to play overseas in America or Europe. Every season, you can feel the passion for American football growing stronger. I’ve come to love this place and know I’ll one day call it home.”

Leading on and off the field

Hazlett’s impact extends far beyond his on-field performance. He actively uses social media to raise awareness and promote American football across New South Wales and throughout Australia. Through his platforms, he plays a crucial role in expanding the sport’s reach and connecting with fans and players alike. Alongside this, Hazlett is dedicated to mentoring younger athletes and leading coaching camps, showing his deep commitment to the long-term growth of American football in the country. With his focus firmly set on the 2025 season, Hazlett shows no signs of slowing down.

“I plan to return to the Raiders for the 2025 season and I can’t wait to reunite with my Raiders family.”
