Austria’s Dacia Vienna Vikings sign Team USA QB Kevin Burke

According to Football Austria and the Twitter account of Kevin Burke, the Dacia Vienna Vikings have  signed Burke, the Team USA gold winning quarterback, for the 2017 season. Burke was quarterback of the 2015 USA squad that won the IFAF World Championships in Canton, Ohio.

The signing is a departure for the Vikings. For the past eight seasons, as Football Austria has written, Vienna has relied on an Austrian under center the most recent being Alexander Thury.

The 13 time Austrian champion Vikings missed the title game in 2016 for the first time since 2010.

In addition to winning the 2015 World Championship title in 2015, the 23 year old Burke took his college team – the Mount Union Purple Raiders – to three straight NCAA Division III championship games winning the crown in 2012. The 5’11”, 190 lb quarterback, amassed 14,573 total yards of offense and threw for 134 touchdowns in three seasons as the Purple Raiders’ starter. Burke was awarded the Gagliardi Trophy in 2014 and 2015 as the most outstanding player in Division III football.

Chris Calaycay, head coach of the Vikings:

“We looked and found a guy that is going to help our program, both on the field and the development of our QB program. Kevin has the leadership qualities and coaching ability to do a great deal for us in 2017.”
