The Kraft Family Israel Football League (nine-man football) playoffs continue tonight as the Judean Rebels take on the Haifa Underdogs in Maaleh Adumim, Israel.
In the first semifinal last night, the Tel Aviv Pioneers had to rely on a last-second goal line interception to defeat the Jerusalem Lions 16-12. The Pioneers are making their third straight trip to the Israel Bowl.
The Underdogs and Rebels played each other twice during the regular season with the Underdogs coming out on top both times, 38-28 and 27-26. The Rebels are defending champions though and anything can happen in the playoffs.
Nine-man American football popular
Nine-man American football is fairly common throughout the United States and Canada. It is also popular in France in the lower divisions, Australia, Norway, Italy and Argentina. The Israel Football League is hoping to expand to 11-man football in two years.
