Watch the Trailer: HBO Feature on American Football in Poland

The passion for American football has hit far flung places

“Unstoppables” is the name of a new HBO Poland produced and directed show about American football in Europe, more specifically Poland, and how it affects the lives of players playing a sport that a few years ago was largely foreign to them. Their passion and commitment are on display in a way no one could dream of in North America. The game means as much to them as to anyone in Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma or anywhere that has lived football for the past 100 years.

It is set to air February 1st in Poland.

Under the direction of Bartosz Kowalski, “Unstoppables” relates the story of three young Polish players – Krzysztof, Sebastian and Marcin  – who have become consumed by the game of football.

“For me, the spectacular nature of American football has actually become a pretext to tell the story of those lads. This discipline means something else for each one of them. For Krzysiek, it’s a way to unwind. Marcin sees it as a chance to integrate with the community, while Sebastian is able to pursue his athletic ambitions. They are driven by different motivation, but share the same goal and dreams”, admits director Bartosz Kowalski.

Have a look at the first teaser:

There are many things that divide the three but playing on one team blurs all divisions and makes them understand one another. They work and spend their free time at training sessions,  painstakingly preparing for upcoming games. The documentary offers a glimpse into their private lives, training routines and stunning games.

And this is Trailer #2.

Marcin is a deaf artist who is an excellent wide receiver. Krzysztof, a lawyer by education, has a towering frame and a troubled past. The life of Sebastian, dubbed Bambo, is filled with sport which sets the rhythm of his daily life. All three characters treat playing on the team very seriously and always demand a lot from themselves. They regularly attend practise and work hard to get ready to play for the top team in Poland, the Gdynia Seahawks.

The documentary Unstoppables is a co-production of HBO Europe and Film It, produced with the contribution of the Polish Film Institute and the Gdynia Film Fund. The documentary is directed by Bartosz M. Kowalski whose debut documentary feature Moja Wola (Dream in the Making), also produced by HBO Europe, garnered five awards, including the Silver Lajkonik Award for the director of the best Polish documentary during the 53rd Kraków Film Festival. DOP Mateusz Skalski is behind the moving photography.
