World University Championships underway in Harbin, China

The 3rd Annual FISU World University Championships in American football are underway in Harbin, China with teams from the United States, the defending champions, Mexico as well as Japan, China and South Korea competing.

Team Mexico is the two-time and defending champions after they defeated the United States in Monterrey, Mexico two years ago. The Mexicans won the inaugural tournament in 2014 which was held in Uppsala, Sweden.

Team USA did not compete in the 2014 tournament.

The US National team has won both of their games easily so far in the tournament beating China 69-0 on opening day. They then disposed of Team Japan 42-3, Team USA continues the tournament on Thursday, June 21 when they take on defending champions, Team Mexico.

The Japanese squad downed Korea 32-0 in their first game of the tournament  and then had no trouble beating China.

The Mexicans whipped Korea to open the tournament 69-0 and then defeated China 70-0.

Team Mexico overwhelmed Korea

The tournament continues Thursday June 21 when Team USA takes on Mexico while China and Korea square off.

The World University Championships wind up on Sunday June 24 with the United States facing Team Korea and the Japanese national team taking on Team Mexico.
