[dropcap]Z[/dropcap]ANS, the Slovenian American Football Association is an organization of seven American Football teams in the central European country of Slovenia. These teams hail from the cities of Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, Kranj, Murska Sobota, Koper and Domžale.

American Football is increasingly conquering  Slovenian sports enthusiasts. Since its arrival on Slovenian soil with the Ljubljana Silverhawks, the sport has spread across Slovenia. The Slovenian American Football Association was then established on 3/15/2004.  With the emergence of American Football on Prvi TV, especially on Sports TV, the interest in the sport has become more widespread and began to have found clubs all over Slovenia. Next founded were the Maribor Generals , Alps Devils and Gold Diggers , then Bistrica Werewolves , followed by Koper Pirates and Murska Sobota Storks .

The 2010 season saw the first Slovenian national championship, and ZANS became a member of the IFAF (International Federation of American Football )

ZANS is organizing and developing several flag football programs in the country. The group’s main focus is to develop American Football on new as well as existing adult and youth clubs, as well as to establish the long lasting growth of American Football in Slovenia.
