The Znojmo Knights took down the Prerov Mammoths 26-13 in a key game in the Czech Snapbacks League, improving their record to 5-1 while the Mammoths fell to 4-3.
The Knights offensive prowess and solid defense were on display throughout the match.
Knights strike first
The Knights wasted no time establishing their dominance. On their opening drive, running back Petr Plaček capped off a methodical march down the field with a 3-yard touchdown run. Plaček had an impressive game, finishing with 168 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Mammoths struggled to respond, punting on their first possession.
Znojmo continued to build momentum as quarterback Volodymyr Hrynkiv connected with Vojtěch for a 65-yard pass, setting up Plaček’s second touchdown from just a yard out, extending the lead to 14-0.
Defensive standoff
The Mammoths‘ offense faltered again, punting after another three-and-out. However, the Mammoths‘ defense stepped up, forcing the Knights to punt as well. The second quarter saw both teams struggle offensively, but Znojmo managed to find the end zone again just before halftime. Hrynkiv’s accurate passing led to a 13-yard touchdown reception by Zachary DeNik, giving the Knights a commanding 20-0 lead at the break.
Mammoths rally late
The second half was marked by rainy conditions that hindered both offenses. The Mammoths finally got on the board early in the fourth quarter when quarterback Nicolas Visser found Jan Vysloužil for a 17-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the score to 20-7.
Znojmo quickly responded with another touchdown, as Hrynkiv connected with Igor Mašlanka for a 26-yard gain, followed by DeNik zigzagging his way to the end zone. The Mammoths managed one more touchdown, with Visser running it in from six yards out, but it wasn’t enough.
With an onside kick attempt failing late in the game, the Knights held on to their lead, securing a 26-13 victory. The Znojmo Knights continue to show their strength as they aim for the top of the league standings.
