LIVESTREAM Germany: Kiel Baltic Hurricanes @ Potsdam Royals, June 12, 16:30 CET (4:30 pm, 10:30 am ET)

The Potsdam Royals (1-0) and Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (0-1) square off for the second week in a row. The two squads played in Kiel last weekend but will play each other again in Potsdam in front of a limited number of fans.

The Royals opened their season making a strong statement with a 55-6 win. Running back Jake Mayon made the most of his German Football League debut rushing for 227 yards and five touchdowns. Potsdam’s offense seemed on cruise control the entire game, even throwing a touchdown pass to offensive lineman Yasir Raji. Fans can expect Mayon and new quarterback PJ Settles to reach the endzone often again today.

Defensively, Swedish defensive lineman Malcom Engstroem was a standout for Potsdam recording eight tackles and a sack. The Royals defense played extremely well, holding the Hurricanes to 37 yards rushing and totaling up four sacks with a relentless pass rush. This athletic Royals defensive line will look to have repeat success at home today.

Kiel’s defense as a whole, struggled to contain the Royals rushing attack. However, linebacker Darin Hungerford held his own making 11 tackles throughout the game. He will need to play well again in order to keep Kiel competitive in this week’s rematch.

Offensively, Hurricanes and former Penn State (NCAA D1) receiver Weston Carr had 103 yards receiving on three catches. Quarterback Joe Germinerio will no doubt be looking his way again as this offense looks to find its rhythm early on in the season.

Fans can expect Kiel coach Timo Zorn and his team to respond to the blowout loss and play much better against a talented Potsdam team in week two. On the other hand, Potsdam looks to keep developing chemistry on a team filled with new faces and talent.
