IFAF European Championship: Team Great Britain’s roster for 5th place game against France

After narrowly losing to the Italian national team last year, Great Britain are back in action this Saturday against France in a qualifying contest for the 2023 International Federation of American Football European Championship.

The GB Lions lost to Italy, the defending champions, 28-23 and thus face the French national team in a battle for fifth place.

Offense

The standout name on the offensive side of the ball is that of quarterback Josh Allsebrook. Last October, the 19-year-old made history against the Italian national team by being the youngest quarterback to start a game for team GB. He gave an excellent account of himself and has since gone on to enroll at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (NCAA DIII).

One player missing that featured heavily in that 28–23 loss to Italy is running back Dwayne Obi who is currently tearing it up in the German Football League. Despite having Milano Seamen offensive lineman Lewis Thomas, there are a number of Brits plying their trade out in Europe who will not be featuring.

Defense

GB’s defense should offer a lot of stability with multiple veterans at every level of the defense. Defensive lineman Rodon Zeqiri and Cade Williams have proven to be highly impactful in the British league and should give the French line some problems. And In the secondary Jason Selormey, Eddie Onamade and Will Hobbs are all bringing with them a high volume of European experience.
