Top scorers in Irish American Football League after Week 6.

With the Irish American Football League approaching the half way stage of the regular season, it’s time to recap on the top performers so far. Below details the top offensive leaders in the passing, rushing and receiving categories. Over the last 6 weeks 547 points have been scored and the players below have contributed greatly to that total!

Passing

The students of University College Dublin aren’t quite hitting the heights of their 2016 season, but quarterback Tom Donovan still remains a heavily influential player. The UCD signal-caller has contributed to 12 of the students’ touchdowns over their first 3 games, 10 passing and 2 rushing and continues to prove why he is one of the top talents in the country. Despite the team’s struggles, particularly on defence, Donovan has lead the offence to a number of high scoring games that includes the 49-34 shootout with the Belfast Trojans and their 48-34 victory over the South Dublin Panthers. If UCD are to improve on their 1-2 record, Donovan will be a catalyst to their efforts.

Rushing

The IAFL’s current leading rusher is in fact; a quarterback. Raymond Burke who took the mantle as the UL Vikings new offensive leader this season has led Limerick to some staggering points totals. Their recent 92-0 demolition of the North Kildare Reapers was just a glimpse of the dangers that the Vikings offence possess  with Burke at the helm. Often considered a ground-and-pound team, Burke has helped produce an equally impressive passing game to compliment their hard nosed running style. His dual-threat ability has helped him leap to the top of the rushing leaderboard with 8 touchdowns, whilst also tallying 4 passing touchdowns too.

Receiving

Trinity College receiver Conor O’Dwyer nabbed top spot on the receiving rankings by nipping ahead of Panthers wideout, Sean Devlin who had been leading the race for the better part of the last 5-6 weeks. The number 1 target man notched 4 touchdowns, one of which came on special teams, as he almost singlehandedly gifted the students their 24-7 win last weekend against the aforementioned Panthers. O’Dwyers standout performance was just the benchmark of an already strong year for the receiver. His abilities have helped the students topple the Belfast Trojans on their way to a 2-1-1 record. The Shamrock Bowl South Conference is an extremely competitive division, but O’Dwyer could become a difference maker in the home stretch.
