Mexico: LFA – Former NFL DB Kamaal McIlwain signs with defending champion Mexicas

Former NFL player Kamaal McIlwain will suit up this coming season for the reigning champion Mexicas of Mexico’s Liga de Futbol Americano Professional.

The 5’10”, 175 lb, 30 year old McIlwain, a native of Indian Land, South Carolina, attended Newberry College (NCAA Div. II, South Atlantic Conference (SAC)). In his career at Newberry, McIlwain made a total of 93 tackles with six interceptions, 24 pass defenses, two fumble recoveries, four blocked kicks and two touchdowns. As a senior in 2010, McIlwain posted 25 tackles (20 solo), two interceptions and eight pass defenses. He also averaged 33 yards per kickoff return including an 80-yard return for a touchdown.

He has spent time on rosters with the Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints.

The Mexicas won their first ever LFA title in 2018 after defeating the Raptors in the 2018 championship game, 17-0.
