Barcelona native Pol Singleton leads Badalona Dracs to Spanish Bowl redemption bid
Quarterback Pol Singleton has engineered the Badalona Dracs’ return to the Spanish Bowl, Spain’s American football championship, set for May 3 at Estadi Olímpic de Badalona where they will face defending and back-to-back champions, the Las Rozas Black Demons.
No easy task, especially for a rookie quarterback.
However, Singleton a 20 year old native of Barcelona, in his first season as the starter with the LNFA powerhouse, has impressed amassing 1,530 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and a 61.29% completion rate, while adding 225 rushing yards and five scores. His dual-threat prowess has been central to the Dracs’ 8-1 campaign under head coach Óscar Calatayud.
Air-and-ground dominance
Singleton’s synergy with receivers David Martinez (a speedster with 315 yards receiving and 5 TDs) and Eloi Soler (a threat who caught 18 passes for 276 yards and 2 TDs)) has kept defenses off-balance. “This is his first senior year, where he started and finished the season as a starter. He’s improved as we expected he would.” said Calatayud. The Dracs’ offense led the LNFA in scoring, fueled by Singleton’s knack for extending plays.
Of course, having running back Keshawn Williams helps alleviate the pressure on the rookie QB. Williams rushed for 725 yards and 13 TDs finishing as the top scorer in the league with 118 points.
Clash with defending champions
The Dracs face the Las Rozas Black Demons, who denied them in last year’s semifinals. Singleton is determined to reclaim the title for Badalona’s storied franchise. The Demons’ league-best defense, which allowed just 9.2 points per game, will test his versatility.
According to Calatayud, Singleton is growing into the role:
“He needs to keep working under the radar to accumulate mistakes and successes without letting that hold him back. He’s developing.”
With a big crowd expected, the 2025 Spanish Bowl promises a thrilling duel between Singleton’s artistry and the Demons’ defensive might.
