Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen sets new NFL record for QB rushing touchdowns
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen made history during Sunday’s 26-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, scoring his 76th career rushing touchdown to break Cam Newton’s record for the most by a quarterback in NFL history.
Record-breaking moment
The record-setting score came on an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter, capping a dominant rushing performance by the Bills that saw the team accumulate 249 yards on the ground. Allen finished the game with 38 rushing yards on eight carries, contributing to an offensive attack that didn’t need to rely heavily on his arm in the victory over the Steelers.
Consistent ground threat
Allen’s record-breaking touchdown marks his 11th rushing score of the 2025 season, making this his third straight year with double-digit rushing touchdowns. The achievement continues a remarkable pattern of production that has seen him score at least six rushing touchdowns in each of his eight professional seasons since being drafted by the Bills in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Dual-threat dominance
While known for his powerful throwing arm and winning the AP NFL Most Valuable Player award, Allen’s consistent ability to score with his legs has separated him from other quarterbacks throughout his career. His record-breaking performance against the Steelers came just two games after tying Newton’s previous record of 75 rushing touchdowns during Week 11.
The new record might not stand forever, however, as Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts already ranks third all-time with 63 rushing touchdowns and continues to add to his total. For now, Allen stands alone as the most prolific rushing quarterback in NFL history.
