CFL Suspends BC Lions’ Kemoko Turay following postgame brawl

The Canadian Football League has suspended BC Lions defensive lineman Kemoko Turay one game for inciting a postgame altercation after their 21-20 victory over the Montreal Alouettes on July 6. The league also fined four others, including Montreal players Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund and M.J. Sherman, for their roles in the incident.

Suspension and fines issued
Turay, who attempted to enter the Alouettes’ locker room tunnel at Percival Molson Stadium, verbally clashed with Adeyemi-Berglund before throwing a punch. The altercation, captured on video, escalated as staff intervened. Commissioner Stewart Johnston condemned the “non-football acts,” emphasizing they “negatively impact the reputation of the CFL.”

Incident sparks League scrutiny
Adeyemi-Berglund claimed Turay entered Montreal’s locker room, “screaming profanity” and “throwing punches.” Turay, a former NFL second-round pick, has recorded six tackles and two sacks this season. The Lions’ narrow win, sealed by a walk-off field goal, was overshadowed by the brawl.

Additional discipline
Montreal offensive lineman Pier-Olivier Lestage was fined for inappropriate contact with a TSN camera operator, while Ottawa REDBLACKS linebacker Frankie Griffin faced penalties for a high hit on Edmonton Elks quarterback Tre Ford. Fine amounts remain undisclosed per CFL policy.

CFL’s stance on discipline
The league refrains from publicizing fine specifics, including those related to dress code violations, staff, or released players. The suspensions and fines underscore the CFL’s commitment to upholding professionalism amid heightened scrutiny of postgame conduct.
