Dacia Vienna Vikings dominate Badalona Dracs in Barcelona; win ECTC Central

The Dacia Vienna Vikings dominated from the opening whistle in defeating Spain’s Badalona Dracs 38-8 in European Club Team Competition (ECTC) action in Barcelona, Spain.

With the win, Vienna advances to the ECTC title game.

The Vikings built a 38-0 lead entering the fourth quarter before the Dracs finally got on the scoreboard late in the game.

Dacia Vienna quarterback Austin Herink completed 20 of 28 passes for 380 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 20 yards and a touchdown. Running back Ismaal Amadu had 14 carries for 108 yards and two touchdowns while receiver Maurice Wappl had three catches for 91 yards and a touchdown and Philipp Dubravec caught two passes for 85 yards and a major.  Bernhard Seikovits led all receivers with seven receptions for 108 yards. Wappl also kicked five PATS and a FG.

For the Dracs, quarterback Hunter Correll threw for 148 yards and was his team’s leading rusher with 14 carries for 46 yards. He also scored Badalona’s lone touchdown on a pass from backup quarterback Sergo Gonzalo. Cernuda was Badalona’s top receiver with seven receptions for 80 yards.

Vienna set the tone early, as Herink scored on the opening drive to give the Vikings a 7-0 lead. Wappl added a 25 yard field goal before the quarter ended.

Dubravec hauled in a 51 yard touchdown pass from Herink early in the second quarter and with the Vikings defense keeping the Dracs from gaining any momentum, Amadu scored the first of his two touchdowns, barging into the end zone from the three yard line and Vienna took a 24-0 lead into the break.

The third quarter was not much different from the first half as Amadu found a gap and raced 32 yards for a touchdown and then Wappl hauled in a beautiful 65 yard touchdown pass from Herink.

With Vienna holding a 38-0 lead in the fourth quarter, Badalona finally found the scoreboard as backup Gonzalo found Correll all alone in the end zone on a trick play.

With the victory, the Vikings have won the ECTC Central (after also beating the Triangle Razorbacks from Denmark two weeks ago) and will await the winner of the game between Denmark’s Copenhagen Towers and Finnish champions, the Helsinki Roosters in the ECTC North. The ECTC title game is set for the weekend of June 8/9.
