The Dallas Renegades (1-0) kicked off their United Football League season in commanding fashion, cruising to a decisive 36–17 victory over the Houston Gamblers (0-1) behind a near-flawless offensive performance and stifling defense at an energized Toyota Stadium.
Reed airs it out in impressive debut
Quarterback Austin Reed was brilliant in his Renegades debut, completing 26 of 40 passes for a UFL record 376 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions. His favorite target was receiver Tyler Vaughns, who hauled in 7 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown, while veteran Greg Ward added 93 receiving yards and a score on just three receptions.
Defense clamps down, creates key turnover
While the offense shined, the Renegades’ defense was equally impactful. Cornerback Steven Jones Jr. came up with a critical interception, and the unit held Houston quarterback Hunter Dekkers to 227 passing yards with no touchdown throws. Though Dekkers added a rushing score, the Gamblers’ offense never found consistent rhythm against an aggressive Dallas front.
Balanced attack sets early tone
The win not only gives Dallas an early tie for first place in the UFL standings but also sends a clear message about their offensive versatility. With Reed spreading the ball effectively and the defense limiting big plays, the Renegades showcased the complete performance necessary to compete in the expanded United Football League.
