The Düsseldorf Panther (4-6) erased a halftime deficit with 22 unanswered points after the break to beat the Berlin Rebels (2-7) 29-13 Saturday, picking up a crucial road victory in the German Football League playoff race.
Rebels control the opening quarter
The Rebels struck first after quarterback Tyquell Fields marched his team from his own nine-yard line down to the Panther one. Nazar Bombata finished it barreling his way into the end zone to give the Rebels a 6-0 lead after a missed extra point.
Düsseldorf responded with a promising drive of its own, but Exavier Edwards intercepted Dawson Herl near the Berlin end zone. The Panther defense prevented the turnover from becoming points, and the offense soon got another chance.
Gennadiy Adams took advantage, breaking loose for a 65-yard touchdown run. David Immel’s extra point put Düsseldorf ahead 7-6.
Fields answered with his legs, racing 26 yards for a touchdown as the Rebels reclaimed the lead. The extra point sent Berlin into halftime up 13-7.

Pedro sparks the turnaround
The game changed immediately after the break.
Daniel Pedro fielded the second-half kickoff in his own end zone and took it 100 yards for a touchdown. Immel’s extra point gave the Panther a 14-13 lead, and Düsseldorf never looked back.
The defense struck next. Chando Ndongfack intercepted Fields and returned the ball 53 yards for another touchdown. Suddenly, a six-point halftime deficit had become a 20-13 Düsseldorf advantage.
Panther pull away
Herl and the offense then added to the damage. James Okike became his most reliable target before Herl found Pedro for a four-yard touchdown, Pedro’s second score of the quarter. Immel converted the extra point to make it 27-13.
The Panther had scored 20 points in the third quarter, with the offense, defense and special teams all contributing touchdowns.
Okike finished as Düsseldorf’s leading receiver with 10 catches for 100 yards. Herl completed 19 of 30 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown, while Adams led the ground game with 90 yards on seven carries, including his 65-yard score.
Defense finishes the job
Berlin never found an answer after halftime. Fields completed 21 of 31 passes for 190 yards but was intercepted twice. He also led the Rebels with 72 rushing yards and their second touchdown.
The Düsseldorf defense provided the final points when Jurriente Davis and Marvin Lundelius stopped Bombata in the Berlin end zone for a safety, stretching the lead to 29-13.
Dy’vonne Inyang later intercepted Fields to shut down another possession before Düsseldorf ran out the clock.

Düsseldorf stays in playoff hunt
The victory was a major response for the Panther following their 49-0 loss to the Potsdam Royals. More importantly, it kept Düsseldorf firmly involved in the GFL North playoff race with two regular-season games remaining.
The Panther now travel to Kempten to face the Allgäu Comets before closing the regular season at home against the Straubing Spiders.
