German U20 National Team tests skills at International Bowl in Miami
The German U20 national team is competing in the International Bowl in Miami, Florida from January 6–11, using the tournament as preparation for 2026 IFAF European Championship qualifiers. Head Coach Peter Daletzki leads a roster of players born between 2006–2008, emphasizing development and exposure for Germany’s next generation.
Youth-focused roster with big goals
Daletzki highlighted the strategic approach: “More than 75 percent of the team consists of players of the younger age groups,” ensuring continuity while giving athletes a chance to showcase skills internationally. Organized with help from Gridiron Imports and The Podyum, the event pits Germany against a global all-star team and a US high school All-American squad—both coached by staff from junior colleges and NCAA Division III programs.
Building on recent success
Germany’s youth program enters this event with strong momentum after dominant wins last year against Italy (55–0) and Denmark (89–0). Structural improvements like the Practice Squad Model, enhanced scouting, and collaboration with GFL junior teams have elevated performance. After initial training in Düsseldorf, the team traveled to Miami for practices, college visits, and games on January 10–11. Daletzki noted the recruiting benefits of playing on American soil.
What’s next
Following the International Bowl, Germany will announce its extended U19 national team for 2026, with a game against Hungary already scheduled for Easter. For now, the focus remains on gaining experience and testing skills under the Miami sun—a valuable opportunity for this rising football nation.
