IFAF: Finland takes control of Women’s Euros

Finland secured a second straight win and took control at the top of the standings in the 2025/26 IFAF Women’s European Championships with a 6-3 overtime road win against Great Britain at the Butts Arena in Coventry. Finland now boasts a 2-0 record having beaten Germany 21-7 back in May.

After a four scoreless quarters it was the hosts who broke the deadlock with a 27-yard field goal by Eilidh Currie. The GB possession saw Grace John’s run move the ball to the Finland seven-yard mark, a pass batted down in the end zone when Vicki Lucas was lucky not to be intercepted, and two runs from Stephanie Wyant stopped for a loss by Hilma Kuitunen and Ida Simila.

The 3-0 overtime lead challenged the Finns to match that score on its possession in reply or claim victory with a touchdown.

Quarterback Pia Konsonen handed off three times for teenage running back Tytti Kuusinen to earn gains to the GB five-yard mark. She then took the ball to within a yard of the end zone before powering up the middle for the winning touchdown.

Next weekend, reigning European champion Spain opens the defense of its title away to Germany at the Stadion im Sportpark Pennenfeld in Bonn-Bad Godesberg.
