The Vienna Vikings (5-0) travel to face the Berlin Thunder (2-3) on Sunday in a key American Football League Europe matchup, with the league leaders looking to remain unbeaten while Berlin hopes to prove how much it has improved since the teams’ one-sided meeting in Week 1.
The first game in AFLE history belonged entirely to the Vikings, who rolled to a 49-7 victory. Six weeks later, both clubs return from a bye week with much different circumstances and plenty to play for.
Thunder offense finding its rhythm
The Thunder offense has grown considerably since that opening-day loss.
Quarterback Jakeb Sullivan and the offense piled up nearly 500 total yards against the Rhein Fire in Week 5, showing a balanced attack capable of challenging one of the league’s strongest teams. That performance demonstrated just how far Berlin has come offensively.

Protecting Sullivan remains the biggest priority. He was sacked six times in the first meeting, preventing the Thunder from establishing any offensive rhythm.
The return of defensive back Kessawn Abraham also gives Berlin’s defense an important boost as it prepares for one of the league’s most explosive offenses.
Vikings remain the team to beat
The Vikings have looked every bit like championship favorites through five games.
Their dominant rushing attack powered the first meeting as Karri Pajarinen and Albert Wiesigstrauch both topped 100 rushing yards, while Alejandro Fernandez consistently pressured Sullivan behind the line of scrimmage.
Since then, Vienna has continued to dominate opponents with its balanced offense, physical defense and impressive depth.
Another measuring stick
For the Thunder, this game represents another opportunity to show they belong among the league’s contenders.
The offense appears capable of moving the football, but slowing the Vikings presents an entirely different challenge. If Berlin can protect Sullivan, avoid the mistakes that plagued the first meeting and force Vienna into a four-quarter battle, this rematch should be far more competitive.
For the unbeaten Vikings, however, the objective remains unchanged: continue their perfect start and strengthen their grip on first place in the American Football League Europe standings.
