The undefeated Copenhagen Towers, Europe #10, will play host to the Aalborg 89ers (6-5) in the Danish American Football League semifinals, Saturday, September 29 at Gentofte Stadion in Copenhagen.
The winner of this game advances to Mermaid Bowl XXX on October 13.
The two teams have played each other twice this year with the Towers coming out with two lopsided wins, 50-7 and 57-8 two weeks ago. The 89ers qualified for this semifinal after beating the Frederikssund Oaks in the wild card playoffs last week, 27-0.
The Towers have had a season to remember, marching through the Danish league without a loss, averaging almost 50 points a game. Copenhagen won the Northern European Football League title, beating Sweden’s Carlstad Crusaders 44-43 in a thriller. In fact, their only loss this year was to Austrian champions, the Swarco Raiders, Europe #4, when they were defeated 45-20 in the European championship.
The Towers are seven-time Danish champions and have reached the final nine times. Meanwhile, the 89ers are looking to reach the final for the very first time.
