LIVESTREAM Germany: Berlin Rebels @ Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, July 31, 15:00 CET (3:00 pm, 9:00 am ET)

The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (1-4) will host the Berlin Rebels (1-4) as the GFL North returns to play.

These teams are eager to hit the field as they’ve been waiting to get back to the season after three weeks off. The Hurricanes visited Berlin back in week three as the Rebels were able to squeeze out the close win 28-14. Expect today to be another exciting and competitive game between two similar teams.

The Berlin Rebels recently added running back Caleb Stennis. Stennis was the Rebel’s most exciting player last time out, as the former Arena League running back ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns against a tough Dresden Monarchs defense. This week Stennis will be lined up across from Germany’s leading tackler in Kiel linebacker Darin Hungerford creating a must-see linebacker-running back matchup. At quarterback, dangerous dual-threat passer Darius Wade will look to finish the second half of the GFL season strong. The former Boston College (NCAA D1) quarterback has proven to be a dangerous offensive weapon.

Big British defensive tackle Remi Daniels is hungry to hit return to the field as an injury held him back during the first half of the season. Daniels should pair well with pass French pass rusher Faye Said who looks to get the quarterback against a pass-happy Kiel offense. Safety Paul Morant on the back end is another player to watch as the veteran athlete has been Berlin’s X factor this season, impacting the game as a running back, receiver, defensive back, and even punter.

The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes enter the second half of the season with a ton of positive momentum. Although they have only one victory the Timo Zorn-led squad was able to defeat the defending champion Braunschweig New Yorker Lions at home on July 3. The upset win was in large part due to an outstanding performance from wide receiver Weston Carr. The former Penn State (NCAA D1) receiver put on a show as he blew by double coverage on his way to a 10 catch, 209-yard, and three-touchdown performance. Coach Zorn feels great about his playmaking wideout as Carr has put up 573 yards and seven touchdowns so far this season. Kiel quarterback Joe Germinerio will be searching for the stand-out receiver once again today as Berlin’s secondary has struggled this season.

Defensive back Geritt Hoeppner was able to seal the upset victory with a clutch diving interception in the game’s final moments. Kiel’s defense will look for the same success today as they face a Berlin squad fighting to stay relevant in a tough GFL North. Linebacker Darin Hungerford is determined to continue his fantastic season as he’s the league’s leading tackler through the halfway point averaging over 12 stops a game. Hungerford projects to have another busy day as the Rebels love to run the ball.

Look for this to be a hard-fought game in Germany’s capital as this matchup features two very evenly matched squads. Kiel hopes to keep their momentum going after their historic victory earlier this month, while Berlin looks to build around their young pieces and get a win in front of their home crowd.
