The German Football League returns to Dresden on Saturday as the undefeated Dresden Monarchs (3-0) host the Berlin Rebels (1-2) at Heinz Steyer Stadium in a matchup featuring one of the league’s hottest teams against a Berlin squad looking to climb back into the race in the North Division.
After a bye week, the Monarchs return to action refreshed and eager to continue their perfect start to the season. Playing at home has long been an advantage for Dresden, and another large crowd is expected to welcome the team back to Heinz Steyer Stadium.
A tough challenge awaits
The Rebels arrive after a narrow 38-33 loss to the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, a defeat that dropped them to 1-2 on the season. Their lone 23-17 victory came against the Pforzheim Wilddogs, while their opener ended in a one-point 15-14 loss to the Potsdam Royals.
Despite the record, Berlin remains a dangerous opponent. The defense has been one of the team’s strengths, allowing just 70 points through three games. Defensive backs Jonas Gacek, a former Dresden Monarchs player, and Alex Spillum have been key contributors in the secondary, while defensive lineman Lamonte McDougle is expected to return after missing last week’s game.

Monarchs looking to stay perfect
Dresden has also continued to strengthen its roster. Defensive lineman Max von Mühldorfer joined the team this week and adds depth to an already strong defensive unit coordinated by Martin Schmidt.
Offensively, quarterback Rocky Lombardi leads a group that has helped push the Monarchs to their unbeaten start. One player drawing particular attention from the Berlin side is receiver Moss, who forms a dangerous connection with Lombardi and gives opposing defenses plenty to worry about.
The Monarchs will also be motivated to deliver a cleaner performance after identifying areas they wanted to improve following their last outing before the bye week.
Defense versus offense
This game may come down to whether the physical Berlin defense can slow one of the most productive offenses in the German Football League. The Rebels have proven they can keep games close, while the Monarchs have shown the depth and firepower to punish mistakes.
With Dresden undefeated and Berlin fighting to keep pace in the division, Saturday’s matchup has all the ingredients of another competitive chapter in this long-running rivalry.
