LIVESTREAM Germany: Saarland Hurricanes @ Allgäu Comets, July 11, 15:00 CET (3 pm, 09:00 am ET)

The Saarland Hurricanes (3-1) will travel to Kempten to take on the undefeated Allgäu Comets (2-0) in this highly anticipated GFL South matchup. Both teams have played great football to start this season and are looking like post season contenders in a talent crowded GFL South. This win could come in handy as playoff races heat up later this summer.

The visiting Hurricanes are coming off of a thrilling 38-31 win in Ravensburg last week. Quarterback Josh Goldin was able to find Kai Hunter wide open on the far side line for a 48 yard strike with under a minute left. The clutch throw and catch step up a short touchdown run to give the Hurricanes the game winning score. Goldin leads a Hurricanes offense that relies on solid pass protection to get the ball to speedy Kai Hunter and sure handed former University of California (NCAA D1) receiver Victor Wharton. This week, the Saarland’s offensive line will have a tough test as they look to protect their pocket passing quarterback against a fierce Comets pass rush.

Australian head coach Christos Lambropoulos has helped this defense create turnovers and get the ball back in Goldin’s hands. The feisty defense features former South Carolina University Gamecock (NCAA D1) Chaz Elder. Veteran Sasan Jelvani and brothers Mutlu and First Yildirim are all athletes who play all over this defense keeping opponents coaches guessing.

The Comets look to get their second straight win at home after edging out the Munich Cowboys 20-17 two weeks ago. Former Texas Tech (NCAA D1) quarterback Mclane Carter threw a late touchdown to Marcel Shade with 1:30 remaining giving his Comets the win. Carter’s quick decision-making and athleticism pairs well with British running back Glenn Toonga. The former Dresden Monarch ran for 184 yards and a touchdown behind great blocking from Serbian Nenad Stojic, Timo Schuessell, and an experienced Comets offensive line. Fans can expect Toonga and fellow running back Brandon Kohn to get plenty of touches against this Saarland defense today.

Allgäu’s defensive line is one of the best in Europe. The relentless group features international flavor as homegrown German talent such as Johannes Wagner and Pidi Arentsen compliment British speed rusher Jonnell Pelie and former Purdue Boilermaker (NCAA D1) American Jermaine Guynn. Veteran linebacker Niall Padden’s sure tackling and leadership will help contain a Saarland offense that has put up over 500 yards last week.

This Sunday afternoon matchup in Bavaria is a great test for the Comets who look to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. The Hurricanes are eager to make a post season run of their own after re-entering Germany’s top league this season.
