LIVESTREAM (in Denmark only) Mermaid Bowl XXXI – Copenhagen Towers v. Triangle Razorbacks, Sat. Oct. 5, 4p CEDT (10a EDT)

The unbeaten Copenhagen Towers (11-0) take on the 7-4 Triangle Razorbacks in Mermaid Bowl XXXI, Saturday, October 5 at Gladsaxe Stadium outside Copenhagen.

This is a classic matchup between two teams that have dominated the landscape of Danish football for the past decade. In addition to being the second straight year these two teams square off in the title game, it is the fourth time since 2013. Last year, the Towers prevailed in an edge-of-your-seat  thriller. beating Triangle 23-22.

In fact, the rivalry between the two clubs stretches back many years. The Razorbacks have won seven Danish titles while Copenhagen has a record eight after breaking the deadlock in last year’s final.

The scenario is much the same this year with Copenhagen having dominated the Danish National League winning all 10 regular season games plus the semifinal relatively easily. Like last year, the Razorbacks enter the game as the underdogs, with a 6-4 regular season record and an upset win in the semifinals over the Sollerod Gold Diggers.

Copenhagen won both games between the two during the regular season, 56-36 and 28-14.

In the semifinals, the Towers easily handled the Aalborg 89ers, beating them 52-20, while Triangle edged the Gold Diggers, 20-18.

Both quarterbacks, Danny Higgins of the Towers and the Razorbacks Reed Gottula, have been key factors for their teams. Higgins is joined in the backfield by running back Anton Witmeur who has taken over as the starter after a season-ending injury to Ashton Heard. Higgins targets include receivers Mark Peters, Jacob Green and Magnus Jensen.

Copenhagen boasted the highest scoring offense in the league with a per game average of 49.3 points. However, the Towers defense was the key, giving up just 162 points in nine games, by far the best record in Denmark this year.

For the Razorbacks, Gottula also has top flight receivers including Ben Von Jagow who had both touchdown receptions in the semifinal win over the Gold Diggers, and Jarius Moll.

The game is being broadcast live on Danish television and is available only in Denmark via a livestream. Copenhagen Towers v. Triangle Razorbacks, Sat. Oct. 5, 4p CEDT (10a EDT)
