The Monterrey Fundidores (1-1) will travel to the city of Querétaro in central Mexico Sunday, February 23 to face the winless (0-2) Querétaro Pioneros in Liga De Futbol Americano (LFA) third round of action.
The Fundidores won the opening game of the season, beating Osos 20-14 but then lost to the Dinos 23-15 last weekend. For the Pioneros it has been a tough season opening as they were whipped 29-7 by the defending champions, the Condors and then beaten 19-2 by the Raptors.
The Pioneros are in their first year in the LFA and clearly showing rookie experience. Still, with Denver native Ryan Pahos at quarterback (he has played in the Czech Republic and Germany), things should begin to turn around.
Querétaro carries seven imports on their roster including two Canadians drafted in the historic CFL-LFA Draft held earlier this year. Drew Morris is a linebacker from Acadia University while Jeremy Fagman plays defensive back and comes from St. Francis Xavier. American running back Joshua Wesley (Howard Payne) gives the offense some punch while wide receiver Shaquez Ty’el Strickland (ASA College) can stretch a defense.

The Fundidores are looking to rebound after the loss to the Dinos last week and obviously feel confident going into a game against a winless team that has struggled mightily on offense. Look for quarterback Julio Stephan Vázquez, who has opened the year with promise, to begin finding his receivers including big (6’3″, 2005 pounds) Aaron Williams, who helped the Mayas to a championship title in 2017.
