PREVIEW: 2014 Football European Championships – Team Denmark

“We can show the world how far football has come in Denmark!”

Everyday this week AFI will be bringing you an introduction to each country represented in this year’s 2014 Eat the Ball Football European Championship taking place in Austria from May 30th to June 7th. Game venues in the preliminary round will include Graz and St. Poelten, while the final games of the championship will be held at the Ernst Happel- Stadium in Vienna.

Today:

DENMARK

This team from the Dansk Amerikansk Fodbold Forbund (DAFF), recently promoted from the B-Group, is the great unknown of this tournament. The Danes defeated Serbia and then fought valiantly in Italy and managed a surprising final defeat over the host Italians in the Group B European Championship last July. Denmark is a force to be reckoned with in flag football, and is an up and coming American Football nation who should not be underestimated.

According the the DAFF, all 2014 preparations for the Denmark A-team have been focused on one task – the 2014 European Championships! This is the biggest stage Team Denmark has ever played on. This is the first time that the Danish Football Federation participates in the European Championships for the A-team.

Denmark is part of Group B along with France and host country Austria. They will play their first round in Graz, Austria and their schedule is as follows:

From Danish Head Coach Lars Carsen:

“Let’s come together to make the best national team ever, so we can show the world how far football has come in Denmark, and how well that worked out in the clubs and the League of Nations.

The expected itinerary for A national team is leaving Denmark Monday, May 26 and returning Sunday, June 8, as they plan to camp in Austria in the days before the tournament starts.
