Badalona Dracs, Osos Rivas only unbeaten teams as Spanish League passes midseason mark

The Badalona Dracs and Madrid’s Osos Rivas remain the only two teams with undefeated records in the Spanish League of American Football following fifth round action this past weekend.

Both teams earned comfortable victories as Osos Rivas downed the Gijón Mariners 54-21 while Badalona pounded the Valencia Firebats 58-8. The LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons suffered their first loss of the season however, dropping them from the unbeaten ranks, as they were downed by the Murcia Cobras 39-34.

Osos quarterback Ryan Deal threw six touchdown passes, five of them to wide receiver Kevin Wiggins as the Rivas broke open a 21-21 halftime tie scoring 33 unanswered points in the second half.

In their lopsided win over Valencia, the Dracs were led by quarterback Hunter Correll who threw seven touchdowns passes, three to Guillem García, while running back Edu Morlans ran for one touchdown and caught a touchdown pass for another score.

In handing the Black Demons their first loss, Murcia Cobras quarterback Adam Salvadori threw four touchdown passes and ran for another while his leading receiver, Cory Holmes hauled in three passes for touchdowns. The game was a see-saw battle with neither team taking control until Murcia scored late in the game to seal the win. For the Black Demons, quarterback Trenton Jones was outstanding throwing five touchdown passes, three to Even Altizer and two to Marcos de la Mata.

With the loss, the Black Demons drop to fourth place in the 12 team league with the Coslada Camioneros in third after blanking the winless Santiago Black Ravens 42-0.  Alejandro Escribano scored five touchdowns to lead Coslada.

Coslada takes third by virtue of allowing fewer points per game than the Black Demons (6.8 compared to 10.6)

The Mallorca Voltors secured their third win of the year with a 45-8 whipping of the Zaragoza Hurricanes. In the final game of the weekend in Spain, the Granada Lions were no match for the Fuengirola Potros who embarrassed them 52-0.
