World University American Football Championships Kick Off In Monterrey Mexico

The 2nd Annual World University American Football Championships kick off on June 1 in Monterrey, Mexico featuring  teams from the United States, Mexico, Japan, India, China and Guatemala.

The championship final is scheduled for June 11.

The inaugural event took place in Uppsala, Sweden in 2014 with five countries competing and Mexico emerging as the winner after beating Japan in the final.

Organized by FISU, the International University Sports Federation, the event  is one of 70 university sports championships played around the world.

Although American football is a latecomer to these events, the history of university/student games on an international level stretches back to 1924.

A number of other countries showed interest in attending including Canada, South Korea, Sweden, Finland, American Samoa and Kenya.
