ELF: Leipzig Kings add NFL Europe and CFL assistant Richard Kent

The Leipzig Kings of the European League of Football have added experience and knowledge to their staff with the addition of Richard Kent.

The veteran college and professional coach will take over as the Kings defensive coordinator for the 2022 season. Kent served as defensive backs coach for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League in the 2021 season.

Kent began his coaching career at Clemson University (NCAA DI) as a graduate assistant, before moving on to eventually become head coach at Catawba College (NCAA DII). In 2001, Kent first coached overseas spending seven seasons in NFL Europe, roaming the sidelines for the Scottish Claymores, Berlin Thunder, Cologne Centurions, and Amsterdam Admirals. During his time in the NFL Europe, Kent won four World Bowl championships.

After his time in Europe, Kent coached in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Toronto Argonauts and Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 2013, Kent served as a secondary coach and special teams coordinator for the Roughriders’ Grey Cup championship team.

Kent will look to improve the Kings defense as the talented club fell just short of the post-season last year. With the addition of linebacker AJ Wentland, and the extensions of cornerback Reodion Henrique and All-Europe defensive tackle Aslan Zetterberg, Kent and head coach Fred Armstrong will aim to make the Kings contenders in the ELF’s second season.
