ELF: Fehérvár Enthroners Sign Quarterback Jack Mangel

The Fehervar Enthroners have found their quarterback for the 2024 European League of Football season, as the team announced the signing of Jack Mangel.

Originally from Athens, Georgia, the 6′ 2″, 220 pound, 24 year old Mangel began his collegiate career with the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers, a junior college in Booneville, Mississippi.  After one season there, he transferred to Concord University, a NCAA Division II school in Athens, West Virginia.  In three full seasons with the Mountain Lions, Mangel threw for over 9,000 passing yards and 81 touchdowns, which is a school record.

His best campaign came in 2022, in which he threw for 3,667 yards and 39 touchdowns in 11 games.  That season, he was named to the All-Mountain East Conference First Team, and was an honorable mention All-American at the Division II level.  At 24 years of age, he will be making his professional debut in Hungary in 2024.

The Enthroners were one of the worst teams in the league last season.  Though their record was 3-9, they only won one game on the field, as their other two victories came when their opponent forfeited.  However, they nearly pulled an unthinkable upset in the second-to-last week of the season, as they fell to the undefeated Vienna Vikings on the road by a slim margin of 21-20.  The team must be hoping that that game could spark a better season in 2024.

With the signing of Mangel, the Enthroners have filled their second of four American import spots.  On defense, the team has already re-signed defensive end Jebrai Regan, who has been with the team since 2017.  They will look to sign more impact players, from both the United States and the rest of Europe, in the coming weeks.
