ELF: Düsseldorf Rhein Fire sign French RB Jason Aguemon

The Düsseldorf Rhein Fire of the European League of Football have signed French running back Jason Aguemon.

For one of the league’s expansion teams, the roster move adds stability to a team slowing showing its initial identity.

The 5’10”, 200-pound running back makes his way to Düsseldorf after tallying 550 rushing yards and four total touchdowns in nine games for the Leipzig Kings. The 29-year-old provided the Kings with a versatile playmaker out of the backfield with the ability to hurt defenses as a receiver or runner.

The Paris, France native has been a fixture on the French national team since 2011 when he suited up as a U19 player in the European championships. In 2015, Aguemon suited up abroad for the first time, playing for the Lübeck Cougars in the GFL2. In Lübeck, he racked up 269 all-purpose yards, two touchdowns, and nine tackles in only five games. Back in France, he has played off and on with the La Courneuve Flash, winning back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018. In 2020, Aguemon was invited to the CFL Global Combine, but was not selected in the draft. Outside of football, Aguemon has used his speed as part of the four-man bobsledding team that competed in the European Cup race in La Plagne in 2017, finishing 13th overall.

The former Leipzig King joins one of the ELF’s newest franchises as their roster slowly begins to take shape. One promising sign for Aguemon is the Rhein Fire’s signings upfront as ELF AllStar guard Nick Weins, GFL All-Star tackle Sven Breidenbach, and fullback Patrick Poetsch will all be looking to open holes for the Frenchmen next season. However, key questions remain as Düsseldorf is still without a head coach or quarterback. Aguemon will be mentored by running backs coach Oyeniran Olanlere Odunayo Ojo a former NFL Europe tailback with decades of experience playing the continent’s highest levels.
