ELF: Rhein Fire sign offensive lineman Sven Breidenbach

The Rhein Fire of the European League of Football have announced their very first player signing bringing in German offensive lineman Sven Breidenbach.

Breidenbach is proud to join Düsseldorf’s reborn NFL Europe franchise.

“I am proud to be part of the team and will do my best to bring a championship to Düsseldorf. Let them feel the fire is back!”

The 6’5″ 285-pound offensive tackle played this season in his hometown with the Cologne Crocodiles of the German Football League. The 31-year-old started his playing career late, at the age of 22, with his hometown Crocodiles. Internationally, Breidenbach played for the German National team and also spent the 2020 season in Poland for the Wroclaw Panthers. While abroad, Breidenbach helped them capture the Polish Football League title and earned all All-Pandemic team honors in the process. The talented big man was also scouted by CFL scouts for the 2021 CFL Global Draft but ultimately was not signed.

CFL Director of Global Scouting, Greg Quick when Breidenbach underwent evaluation at the CFL Global Combine held in Germany in 2020:

“Sven looks like the prototypical offensive lineman. He easily passed the eyeball test and just carried himself with an air of assurance and maturity.”

The signing of the Rhein Fire’s first player is the first of many roster moves by general manager Patricia Klemm. Breidenbach fits in well as he joins offensive line coach Erol Seval, one of the well-known line gurus in the country. Expect more talent to join the Düsseldorf based team as they reported having over 680 players applications.
