Finland: Helsinki Roosters bolster team with LB Filip Jönsson and WR/DB Rashad Still

If there was any doubt that the Helsinki Roosters were determined to regain the Finnish title, the signing of Swedish all star linebacker Filip Jönsson and wide receiver/defensive back Rashad Still is proof that they are.

The Roosters sit in second place in the Maple League standings with a 3-0 record.

In Jönsson, the Roosters have brought in a run stopper of the highest caliber. The 6′, 230 pound veteran linebacker helped the Örebro Black Knights win their first ever Swedish title this year and was one of the top defenders for the Black Knights recording 14.5 tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks in the four games. For his performance this year, he was voted Linebacker of the Year in Sweden. In fact, the 31 year old Jönsson, who also starts for Team Sweden and was an anchor on the Swedish U19 national team’s fifth place finish as the 2009 Junior World Championships 2009 in Canton and second place at the 2008 U19 European Championships, has been an anchor in Örebro’s defense since 2016. He spent three seasons (2011 – 2013 as a starter at Lindenwood University (NCAA Div. II).

”This is the year I want it all. My decision to extend my 2021 season and go too Roosters was a easy decision. With Roosters I will join an already strong and experienced squad, hungry for gold. It’s a professional organization with a winning mentally.”

The 23-year-old Still is a 6-5, 220-pound wide receiver from El Paso, Texas who just finished playing for the Fehervar Enthroners of the Hungarian Football League where he helped the Enthroners reach the Hungarian final. He spent the 2020 season with the Tychy Falcons in the Polish Football League and played a key role in the team’s path to the PFL semifinals. Still spent three seasons playing for the University of Minnesota Gophers and caught 38 passes for 611 yards and three touchdowns. After his college career, he played for Atlantic City in AFL (Arena Football League) in 2019 and recorded 39 catches for 335 yards and six touchdowns.

“Yes it definitely has been a busy year, but nothing to hard to handle. I’m grateful to the Roosters for giving me the opportunity to help support them on the chase to win a championship.”
